Coaching Philosophy
At the core of Alexander’s coaching philosophy is the belief that every dancer has the potential for greatness. He approaches each student as an individual, taking the time to understand their unique strengths, challenges, and aspirations. From there, he crafts personalized training plans to help them develop their skills and reach their full potential.
Alexander’s coaching style is at once disciplined and nurturing. He sets high standards for his students and pushes them to continuously strive for improvement. At the same time, he creates a supportive and encouraging environment where dancers feel motivated and inspired to put in the hard work necessary for growth.
In his teaching, Alexander emphasizes:
Mastery of fundamentals
A strong foundation in the fundamentals of posture, balance, control, and body movement is essential for success in any dance style. Alexander helps his students build this foundation through targeted exercises and drills.
Musicality
To be an exceptional dancer, one must have a deep connection to the music. Alexander trains his students to not just dance to the rhythm, but to embody the character and emotion of each piece of music.
Partnering skills
Ballroom dance is a partnership between two people moving as one. Alexander teaches the nuances of leading and following, communication between partners, and creating a strong connection on the dance floor.
Artistry and expression
Technical proficiency is important, but it is the ability to convey feeling and tell a story through movement that makes a dancer truly captivating. Alexander works with students on developing their artistic expression and unique personal style.
Mental and physical discipline
Becoming a top dancer requires dedication, focus, and resilience. Alexander instills in his students the discipline and work ethic necessary to excel, while also emphasizing the importance of rest, nutrition, and mental wellbeing.
Whether the goal is social dancing, competitions, showcases, or personal growth, Alexander is committed to helping each dancer he works with to become the best version of themselves. His holistic approach addresses the technical, artistic, physical and mental aspects required for dancers to thrive.

FAQs
What should I wear to lessons?
Comfort and ease of movement are key when selecting dancewear. We recommend fitted clothing that allows your instructor to see your body lines, such as leggings, tights, or slim-fitting trousers paired with a form-fitting top. Avoid overly baggy or restrictive clothing. For footwear, choose shoes with a smooth sole that allow you to turn easily. Ballroom dance shoes are ideal, but any comfortable shoes with minimal traction will work for your first few lessons. Feel free to bring multiple shoe options to find what works best for you.
Do I need previous dance experience?
Absolutely not! We welcome dancers of all experience levels, from complete beginners to seasoned competitors. Whether you’re taking your very first dance steps or looking to refine your technique after years of dancing, Alexander will customize your lessons to match your current abilities and goals. Everyone has to start somewhere and we’re happy to guide you on your dance journey no matter your starting point.
How do I choose the right dance style to learn?
The best dance style to start with depends on your personal interests, musical preferences, and goals. If you’re unsure where to begin, we recommend starting with a foundational style like Foxtrot or Rumba. These dances provide a strong technical base that will serve you well as you explore other styles. If you have a specific goal in mind, like preparing for a special event or competing in a particular style, Alexander can recommend the best path forward. Feel free to discuss your dance aspirations with us and we’ll help you devise a personalized plan.
Can I take lessons without a partner?
Yes! While ballroom dancing is a partnered activity, you can absolutely begin your dance training solo. In fact, starting with individual lessons is a great way to gain confidence and build a strong foundation before dancing with a partner. In your private lessons, Alexander can play the role of your partner, allowing you to develop leading or following skills. Once you feel comfortable with the basics, you may wish to find a practice partner or sign up for partnered coaching. But you can go far on your own with Alexander’s expert guidance.
What is your cancellation policy?
We understand that life happens and you may occasionally need to cancel or reschedule a lesson. For private lessons, please provide at least 24 hours notice to avoid being charged. For group classes and workshops, cancellations must be made at least 48 hours in advance to receive a refund or credit. If you need to cancel within 24 hours due to an emergency or illness, please contact us and we’ll do our best to accommodate you. Missed lessons without prior notification will be forfeited.
Do you offer gift certificates?
Yes, dance lesson gift certificates make a wonderful and unique gift for any occasion! You can purchase gift certificates for any denomination to be applied towards private lessons, group classes, workshops, or coaching packages. Dance lessons are an experience that keeps on giving as your recipient discovers the joy of dance.
